Private 5G/6G Networks as an Ecosystem Game-Changer

Nozomu Watanabe joined NEC Corporation in April 1988. His career started as an engineer of mobile radio access technology. From 1998 to 2003, he was Division Manager of Telecom MODUS Ltd. (UK), where he engaged to launch development center of mobile base station equipment for global market. In 2011, he was assigned to General Manager of Mobile Radio Access Network Division, responsible for mobile base station equipment business for telecom carriers. In 2017, he was assigned to General Manager of Wireless Network Development Division, responsible for wireless network development. In 2018, he was promoted to Corporate Executive and he is currently responsible for 5G and next generation network solution technology development as Network Service Business Unit CTO.
Marja Matinmikko-BlueResearch Director, University of Oulu, Finland
Marja Matinmikko-Blue is Research Director of the Infotech Oulu Institute and Director of Sus-tainability & Regulation at 6G Flagship at the University of Oulu, Finland, where she also holds an Adjunct Professor position in spectrum management. Marja completed her Doctor of Science degree in communications engineering in 2012, and Doctor of Philosophy degree in management sciences in 2018 at the University of Oulu. She has been conducting multi-disciplinary research into the technical, business, and regulatory aspects of future mobile com-munication systems in close collaboration with industry, academia, and regulators for over two dec-ades. Marja has coordinated several national research project consortia that have successfully demon-strated new technology including the world’s first licensed shared access (LSA) spectrum sharing trials and the introduction of a new local 5G operator concept, which has become a reality in many coun-tries. She has actively contributed to, and participated in, regulatory bodies at the national, European, and international levels. She also coordinated the preparation of twelve 6G White Papers at the 6G Flagship (the first White Papers on 6G in the world) and led the development of the White Paper on 6G Drivers and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Antonio Franchi works at the European Space Agency as the Head of Space for 5G/6G Strategic Programme. Antonio has 30 years of experience in the satellite telecommunications industry. Prior to ESA, Antonio worked for over 20 years with a major global satellite operator, spearheading a new generation of satellite communications systems, covering various technical and managerial responsibilities for design, development, implementation and operation of advanced satellite systems and networks. Antonio received an MSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome and an MBA from the London Business School. He is the author of 30+ articles and papers published at international conferences and professional magazines and he holds five international patents in the Satcom field.
