Giovanni Romano

Giovanni Romano is currently coordinating TIM activities on technical standards related to radio access and spectrum.

In October 2016 Giovanni was nominated Alternate Board Director, representing TIM in NGMN.

Since 1996 Giovanni has been active in several international standardisation fora and he is currently attending 3GPP RAN and NGMN. He is the 3GPP appointed coordinator for the exchange of information between 3GPP and ITU-R and coordinated the submission of 3GPP “5G” towards IMT-2020.

Giovanni served as Vice-Chairman of 3GPP Technical Specification Group RAN for the period 2013-2017.

Until 2005, Giovanni was project leader of several activities within the R&D center of Telecom Italia, including UMTS performance evaluation, quality of service verification, standardisation, field trials, and testing.
