Markku Juntti

Professor, University of Oulu

Markku Juntti, a Fellow of IEEE, earned his M.Sc. (EE) and D.Sc. (EE) degrees from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1993 and 1997, respectively.

From 1992 to 1998, Juntti was associated with the University of Oulu. During the academic year 1994–95, he served as a Visiting Scholar at Rice University, Houston, Texas. He later took on the role of Senior Specialist at Nokia Networks in Oulu, Finland, from 1999 to 2000. Juntti has been a Professor of Communications Engineering at the University of Oulu’s Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) since 2000. There, he spearheads the Communications Signal Processing (CSP) Research Group and also oversees the CWC – Radio Technologies (RT) Research Unit. His research primarily focuses on signal processing for wireless networks, communication, and information theory.

Juntti has contributed to nearly 500 international publications, including journals, conference records, and books such as “Wideband CDMA for UMTS” (2000–2010), “Handbook of Signal Processing Systems” (2013 & 2018), and “5G Wireless Technologies” (2017). He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rice University, Houston, Texas, USA. Dr Juntti is experienced in leading national and international research projects and serves or has served as the University of Oulu Principal Investigator in numerous EU-funded projects such as INSTINCT, TERA6G, ARIADNE, TERRANOVA, and DUPLO, as well as several Business Finland or Research Council of Finland (former Academy of Finland) funded ones.
